WORLD BUILDING : CREATING MY CHARACTER

I view this character as my alter ego, a silly clown doll. Ramona Flower Child is a play on Ramona Flowers from Scott pilgrim vs the world who I was often compared to when I had my pink hair. I was heavily inspired by the film Daisies, a 1966 by Vera Chytilova. Depicts two girls who trick men, play pranks on each other and divert typical views of a ‘perfect’ women. This was controversial at the time and was actually banned for a few years. They lack table manners and eat desserts on mass with their hands, causing a massive mess and perverting the typical male gaze. Ramona was exiled from her home land by refusing the expectations of her.   She is in Topia to regenerate and break shackles of previous world. however her masked doll and childlike nature shows she is struggling to detach from this therefore showing how normalised an institutionalised gender discrimination has imprinted in her brain. It is an unconscious behaviour. She wears a white dress but as the performance went on it got progressively stained and dirtied , symbolic of Ramonas growth.
